Viet Lam Co., Ltd. is a private export company that markets ceramics and lacquerware along with bamboo, palm leaf and rattan baskets. The number of artisans involved ranges from 50 to 200 a month, depending on the number of orders the company receives. The company contracts the orders to several factories in and around Ho Chi Minh City. Eighty percent of the exported handicrafts are made in family factories. Viet Lam Co., provides piece rate work, materials for production and payment for labor costs. Additional benefits include interest-free loans to the artisans for repairing tools and machines, advances of 30 to 50 percent for orders and assistance with development of new designs and products.
